Quick Review: Awesome! I Fuckin' Shot That! C+

For those of you who know me well enough, you've probably heard me say numerous times that I hate pointlessness in movies. In works of fiction it's a crime, but in documentaries it's even worse. When a film like this comes out, I simply see no reason for why anyone should see it, except for a select group of people that is so small that it doesn't warrant it's own movie. The select group of people in this case are Beastie Boys fans. That might sound like a lot, but considering that they are mostly adults who won't accept the way this film is put together, the number is even smaller. It is spliced from footage that was shot by fans attending a Beastie Boys concert who were given free cameras. The footage is put together to make a 90 minute concert film shot by people who are definitely not professionals. The inconsistency of the quality of the camerawork here takes away from the experience, as does the MTV-style editing that requires a lot more than the allotted 50 camera angles, and the bad sound quality. Oh, and here is the kicker: I'm not even a Beastie Boys fan. In fact if you aren't one either you can just forget it. If I was to say the truth though, I would say that this is a brilliant concept, that just didn't come through and it's a pity. Maybe if this was a "Metallica" concert it would have been a much better film.
